I LOVE 1776. I first saw the movie in 5th grade when we were studying the decleration of independence. I love the CD. I want to buy it. I have never seen the show, but really want too. I think it is such a good musical. Each year my school put on a musica . This year I want them to put on 1776 and I want to be John Adams! (I have short hair and a fairly low voice!)

I simply love William Daniels and Brent Spiner. I wish I had had the chance to see them perform in this phenominal musical about the signing of the Declaration of Independence. While watching the musical, you are never sure that they are actually going o sign it. It makes you appreciate what our founding fathers went through in order to assure our independence. I love this show both as entertainment and as a historical reference. Franklin did this. Franklin did that. Franklin did some other damn thing. Franklin smoked the grouond and out came George Washington, fully grown and on his horse. Franklin then electrified him with his miraculous lightning rod and the three of them, ranklin, Washington and the horse, conducted the entire revolution by themselves.

I don't really like this musical at all, but I had to watch it for school. However, this website was very nicely laid out and helped me find information to use for my essay.

It's the most amazing piece of ensemble work for musical theatre. And what a great way to teach history...kids would never have a problem remembering the thirteen colonies or their representatives if they saw this movie. I also would love to get a copy f the extended version. Also, can anyone tell me if they have a letterbox version for sale? It makes me crazy having the actors cut out of the scenes, especially during songs!!! Great site...nice to know there are other wonderfully crazy people like me out there!

My mother is a very patriotic person. She attended Valley Forge High School and all are known as Patriots. That was nearly 30 yrs ago and I just graduated from that same school. She saw 1776 when it came out on the big screen and fell in love with it. She made me watch it when I was about 11 and I fell in love with it. I have never had so much respect for our history in this country until seeing this movie. I only wish history could be always taught by musicals. This brilliant musical has given me so much atriotism and so much interest in our heritage. I thank my mother for making me watch this and many other musicals as a child, and I'd like to thank the people who created 1776 for an experience I will never forget.

This is one of the best musicals ever made!!!!! I've been looking all over the place for a WAVE file of the entire "Molasses To Rum" song or "Sit Down John" that I can save to my hard drive and use for the Windows Exit instead of the chimes- I don't like the fact that the wave files only play part of a song. The MIDI player on my computer got messed up so I can't use a MIDI file. By the way: "someone oughta open up" more great 1776 web sites!!! I know what I'll do: "Vote yes! Vote yes! Vote for independency!"--John Adams -Kelly C.

What a fun site! I guess I'm in the minority here; I saw the movie years ago and didn't care for it--perhaps I was too young, perhaps I was out of it that day. I became a fan after seeing the triumphant revival. It was rousing, patriotic, ebullient and moving. I can think of only one weakness in the cast, and I came away with even more admiration for Brent Spiner and Pat Hingle than I had previously.

Thank you for the great site. I've always loved the movie version (and my vhs copy is worn to prove it). It's a perfect blend of music/lyrics, comedy and history. My Independence Day would not be complete without watching 1776 and reading the Declarati n of Independence and then watching the fireworks in the evening...thrilling, for me.

I've frequented this site many times before adding my "John Hancock". I'm so glad there is this site to get information from and also the Yahoo! Club. 1776 has got to be the greatest musical of all times. It's funny, educational, and a wonderful tool to l arn the meaning behind the Declaration of Independence!

My (Canadian) husband and 16 year old son absolutely love this movie!! After watching it today (for about the 200th time!) I decided to check out to see if there was a website and couldn't believe how many other 1776 lovers there are out there! One other thing - Ralston Hill, who played Charles Thompson - does anybody know if he was in any other movies. There is an actor in the last "Indiana Jones" movie that kind of looked and sounded like him.

I 1st saw the movie at Radio City Music Hall in NYC with my folks & brother in the 70's. I'm a hugh history buff with the American Revolution as my favorite period. My son's name is Jefferson, my van has "1776" on the license plate & almost all family get ways have something to do with history. I'm sure watching this movie so many years ago had someting to do with it. Thanks for such a well informed web-site. I've already e-mailed a couple of other fans from the guestbook for requests that they've offered.
